2021 was an uncertain time for all of us, including the world of flooring. Despite initial lockdowns at the start of the year, many people started returning to places of work as covid restrictions eased.
This drove a wave of pandemic-proof corporate renovations and new flooring trends. As a commercial carpet tile manufacturer, we like to think we know a thing or two about what’s going on in the world of flooring.
So, here are some of our top predictions for what’s to come trend-wise in the new year…
Carpet tiles are here to stay
The market for carpet tiles has been steadily growing over the past few years, and the pandemic has accelerated this further.
Due to Covid, businesses need flexible flooring solutions which can be easily moved at a moment’s notice, but are also hardwearing, hence why carpet tiles are proving so popular. This will only continue in 2022, as the benefits of flexible flooring continue to become more apparent.
Detailed patterns
Patterns were popular this year and they’re not going anywhere any time soon. Detailed, intricate patterns in muted tones will be favoured over big bold patterns, to promote calmness and wellbeing in corporate environments – something which employers have realised is extremely important in a post-pandemic world.
Cleanliness is key
Hygiene continues to be one of the most important factors in workplace design, so flooring options that are easy to clean and maintain will stay popular in 2021.
Carpet tiles fit the bill in this case; they are cost-effective, simple to sterilise and easily replaced, and will remain popular for years to come for these reasons.
Natural Colours
Bringing everything back to basics and highlighting colours and patterns from nature will be a key theme next year. Having been ‘locked-down’ for much of the last 2 years, people are choosing to bring the outdoors inside through biophilic shades in their interiors, and carpet tiles are no exception to this rule.
This particular trend will coincide with a focus on mindfulness and comfort, with designs and shades like those from our Inspiration Collection taking precedence.
Sustainability
After COP26, and the renewed focus on climate change and being environmentally friendly in 2021, flooring trends for next year will without a doubt include being as sustainable as possible.
