The deficit The Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design at the Royal College of
Art (RCA) combined with Gensler the global architecture
practice, have released a report documenting the Ôwell being
deficitâÕ in the UK workplace that has caused a loss of
productivity through sickness and stress.
This well being deficit
is part of a worldwide trend, leading to unprecedented interest
by organisations in ways to improve wellbeing, satisfaction
and engagement of employees.
Absence from work costs the
UK economy more than £14 billion a year according to the
Confederation of British Industry (CBI 2013).
In 2014, around
27.3 million working days were lost in the UK, according to the
Health and Safety Executive; 23.3 million of them were due to
work-related ill health, predominantly depression, stress,
anxiety and musculoskeletal disorders, and just over 4 million
due to workplace injuries (HSE 2015).
The study concluded
that workspace is being squeezed, there is a requirement for
more breakout areas and team space.

bright daylight, themed flooring and biophilic flooring and wall
areas are required,
